What to expect at a Start-up Surgery appointment

The Enterprise Team offer one to one advice and support every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 2-4pm at our Start-up Surgery. This service enables you as a DMU student or graduate to access FREE business advice to help you kick start your business idea or self-employment journey.

Students considering self-employment or freelancing during their studies or after they graduate are encouraged to use this free service to help them start their journey on the right foot. Whether it’s for advice on legal structures, market research, marketing or finance, our business advisor’s can help!

Each surgery appointment lasts for 30 minutes and take place in the Innovation Centre on Bonners Lane or over the telephone if you no longer live in Leicester. Appointments can be booked online through MyGateway.

At the beginning of the appointment, the advisor will ask for further information about your idea and your enquiry. Hopefully they will be able to answer your query there and then during the appointment, however if they are required to conduct some background research, the advisor will look into it further and get back to you as soon as possible via email.

When we say the surgery is for any DMU student  or graduate, we really mean it! It doesn’t matter what stage you’re at or if you literally woke up that morning and decided you want to be self-employed when you graduate. We see a wide range of students from all four faculties and years with a whole host of different ideas at different stages. Everything discussed in the surgery is confidential and will be followed up with a summary email from the advisor.
