We had a great afternoon earlier this week, briefing our Pitch2Win 2016 finalists about the last stage of the competition which will take place on Tuesday 26 April.
In it’s first year, Pitch2Win is our brand new monthly competition replacing the Business Venture Competition which required students and graduates to write a detailed business plan for their idea.
Pitch2Win provides DMU students with easy access to funding for their business idea every month between October and March. Each pitching event has been fully booked with students across all years and faculties. A panel of external judges choose a winner each month and award them with £250 cash! Not bad for a 2 minute pitch hey?! All finalists are then invited to pitch again in front of a larger audience for their chance to win a bigger cash prize.
During the briefing session, finalists spoke to DMU’s press team, explaining the inspiration behind each of their ideas and how they want to develop them further. We also provided them with information about the awards evening and what should be included in their pitches. There is a fantastic range of ideas which have been short listed for the final which promises to be a great evening and we simply can’t wait. The 2016 finalists are:
- Dominic Bryan – UniYap
- Emma-Jane Rule – Silversmith and Jeweller
- Jessica Okoro – BeScience
- Khusboo Raja – Auspicious Moments
- Lewis Black – E-Car Specialist
- Mohamed Omar – English Queen Honey
Students and graduates who have not previously received funding for their business idea through the Enterprise Team or Crucible are eligible to apply for Pitch2Win in October. In the mean time, all DMU students and graduates can access FREE one to one business advice every week at our start-up surgery.
